Pubdate:2021-05-21

May 18th is International Museum Day. In order to enhance cultural exchanges between China and ASEAN countries, the China Red Sandalwood Museum welcomed a delegation of ambassadors from ten ASEAN Beijing Committee countries - Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, Laos and Brunei - to China, comprising 18 diplomats, including four ambassadors and seven deputy Chief of Missions. The delegation was led by the Ambassador of Vietnam to China, Mr. Pham Sao Mai, Chairman-in-Office of the ASEAN Beijing Committee, on a visit to the China Red Sandalwood Museum. The visit was accompanied by Vice President Shi Ling of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs(CPIFA).

Chan Laiwa, Chairlady of the Board of Directors of Fuwah International Group and  Curator of the China Red Sandalwood Museum, greets the guests of the diplomatic delegation in front of the Museum. Mr.Chiu Yung, director and president of Fuwah International Group, Mr. Chi Chungsui, director of Beijing Red Sandalwood Cultural Foundation, Ms. Chiu Li, director of Fuhua International Group, and Ms. Chiu Ziwei, deputy curator of China Red Sandalwood Museum.

The delegation of Chinese ambassadors, personally accompanied by Mr.Chi Chungsui, visited some of the main exhibits divided into various floors of the exhibition hall. The guests were extremely impressed by the Red Sandalwood Corner Tower of  Imperial Palace, the Red Sandalwood carving screen Along the River During the Qingming Festival, the Red Sandalwood and carbonized wood Yongding Gate, the  Heavenly Pavilion of red sandalwood, and a hall of Huanghuali wood furniture in Ming style displayed in the exhibition hall. "It's very atmospheric and remarkable." "These exhibits are so beautiful!" A diplomat from Indonesia, when he learnt that wood grows in tropical South Asia, said that the Chinese are so clever and that we have a lot of such wood in the South Seas, and few people can make such exquisite furniture. "The Chinese made it hundreds of years ago. Bravo, Chinese."

The Vietnamese Ambassador to China, Mr. Pham Sao Mai, said he was very grateful for the invitation from Curator Chan Laiwa and that we were very impressed by the exhibits at the China Red Sandalwood Museum. We were not satisfied with this visit and hope to come back again sometime. "Curator Chan Laiwa, you are the pride of the Chinese people."

Curator Chan Laiwa said she felt honoured to receive the ambassadors of the ten ASEAN countries in China, and especially welcomed you to come and see more. The fact that you have come to gain an in-depth understanding of Chinese Red Sandalwood culture is both a recognition of the Chinese Red Sandalwood Museum and an encouragement to me personally to devote myself to promoting Chinese culture. I also hope that people from ASEAN countries will have the opportunity to visit China more often and learn more about the Chinese culture.

Curator Chan Laiwa also presented an ink painting of her own to the delegation of a mbassadors in China, "Rooster Calls Spring", a painting that symbolises harmony and the peace of the world. She mentioned that let culture pass on and culture knows no borders.

In her speech, Vice President Shi Ling said she was delighted to accompany the ambassadors to the China Red Sandalwood Museum. We are grateful to the Curator Chan Laiwa for the invitation. Curator Chan is a well-known Chinese entrepreneur and philanthropist who has been widely acclaimed both at home and abroad for her dedication to the heritage and promotion of traditional Chinese red sandalwood culture. Curator Chan is also a member of the Board of Directors of the CPIFA and has long been a great supporter of the work of the CPIFA. Previous delegations received by the CPIFA have praised the China Red Sandalwood Museum, describing it as a window and bridge to a better understanding of Chinese and foreign cultures. I believe that, like me, the ambassadors have been impressed by the artistic and cultural connotations of this museum through today's visit, and have deep admiration for Curator Chan Laiwa's dedication to the pursuit of art.
