China Red Sandalwood Museum was invited to participate in "the 2021 UN Chinese language day in Vienna"

At 20 o'clock in the evening on July 5th, Beijing time (14:00 on July 5th, Vienna time), the 2021 UN Chinese language day in Vienna event kicked off, and the China Red Sandalwood Museum was invited to participate in this global promotion.

Due to the Covid-19 epidemic, the event was held in a video format, which was simulcast to audiences at home and abroad through several mainstream new media platforms and broadcasted on a large screen at the United Nations in Vienna.

During the event, a congratulatory message from Ms. Chan Laiwha, the curator of the museum, was shown, as well as a film en d "Chan Laiwa and Her Red Sandalwood Dreams", which introduced the history of Ms. Chan Laiwa who has passed down the "red sandalwood carving" intangible heritage skills for many years and promoted red sandalwood culture in the world.

The event was organized by the Permanent Mission of China to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization(UNIDO), United Nations Information Service Vienna, the VIC Chinese Cultural Association and the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and hosted by the the Chinese Cultural Association in Austrian. The theme of the event was "cherishing traditions for colorful future", aiming to promote traditional Chinese culture and history, showcase the miracle of China's economic development, and highlight the progress of national unity.

 

 

At the opening ceremony on the 5th, Ambassador Wang Qun, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations in Vienna, Li Yong, Director General of UNIDO, and Groce, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency delivered speeches, and more than 200 ambassadors or senior diplomats from 70 countries and international organizations, including Russia, the European Union and Pakistan, as well as senior officials from various international organizations in Vienna attended. According to statistics, 100,000 domestic and foreign viewers watched the opening ceremony live through the online platform.

          

 

In the opening performance, Chinese artists presented songs, Beijing opera, criticism, acrobatics, folk dance and other wonderful programs in an "online" way. The guests expressed that the performances were memorable and the profound heritage of Chinese culture was admirable; the rapid development of China's economy and society was admirable.

The Chinese Language Day will last until the 9th, during which there will be four "National Treasures and World Cultural Heritage" feature films from National Palace Museum, Grottoes Temple in Gansu, China Red Sandalwood Museum, Songshan Shaolin Temple and the Yangtze River Delta famous theater and other thematic cultural performances,showing a full range of Chinese culture from multiple angles.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the permanent seat of China in the United Nations. At the beginning of June this year, our museum received an invitation letter from the VIC Chinese Cultural Association and the Chinese Cultural Association in Austrian, inviting our museum to participate in the 2021Vienna  Chinese Day" event.

In 2010, the United Nations Department of Public Information (DPI) launched United Nations Language Day, an initiative to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity and to promote the equal use of the six official languages at the United Nations.

The UN Department of Public Information (DPI) designated Chinese Language Day as the annual commemoration of Cangjie's contribution to the creation of Chinese characters on the day of the rainy season. The week-long event was postponed this year due to the epidemic. UN Chinese Language Day has become a window into Chinese culture.
