Historian Yan Chongnian delivered a speech on the ceremony

Congratulations

Yan Chongnian

Today, I am honored to witness the solemn moment that “gilded teakwood model of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest Temple Of Heaven” was donated from Chan Laiwa, the director of China Red Sandalwood Museum, to the National Museum of China. The model represents the prototype perfectly, by overall scale 1/10, diameter 9 meters, height 3.8 meters. It absolutely possesses great historical, cultural, artistic and historical relic values, and it will collected by Palace Museum forever as important cultural relic.

The Temple of Heaven is the altar used to offer sacrifices to heaven in Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty. Good Harvest Temple of Heaven is the place where ancient emperors prayed for agricultural harvest. Today's ceremony is a wonderful symbol, for the union of nature and human, national prosperity, people peace, social harmony and world peace!

Chan Laiwa and I have known each other for many years, I am deeply impressed by her patriotism! She was born in Gulu suwayan family, the best royal blood of Qing Dynasty.

She is a extraordinary woman, she is the member of the standing committee of CPPCC, deputy director of Hongkong and Macao Commission of CPPCC, patriotic compatriots in Hongkong, successful Entrepreneur, cultural undertakings promoter, disseminator of excellent Chinese culture. And she is also a kind woman, when any natural disasters occur, she always donate to victims timely, this fully reflect her kindness and patriotism.

Beijing Academic Association of Manchus Study has conducted it's international academic conference on Manchus study for 5 times recently, and published for 7 series, for all above, Chan Laiwa donated generously, and expanded Manchu's influences in the world remarkably.

Chan Laiwa always pay attention to culture and support it strongly. She established the cultural foundation to support the culture and education development in poor areas, she also established the unique high-class red sandalwood museum in China. She created 16 old city gates models, come from ancient Beijing, made of sandalwood and buried wood, including 9 inner city gates and 7 outer city gates, specifically including its gatehouses, watchtowers, enceintes, this has made great contributions to protect sandalwood culture, preserve the classical landscape memories of ancient Beijing, and developed the traditional culture! Not only this, she also exhibited the models all over the world, even donated to the museums of foreign countries, such as France,United states, Germany, Japan, etc., all this has made magnificent contributions to spread the Chinese traditional culture all over the world.

As the national inheritor of sandalwood carving,Chan Laiwa spent much time in workshop, work as a craftsman, and care for other workers! She was called ”wood block mother kindly by other workers! The works from her workshop fully embodied the spirits of great national craftsman.

I witnessed the great contributions she made for the Chinese traditional culture development, I fully admire her spirit of patriotism and professional dedication.
